Perhaps "unencumbered imagination" is one way of dealing with older useless objects lying loose in the landscape, whose archiving has no deeper meaning, yet they are present and, probably, here to stay for a long time. These are the various relics of the "loose, barely identifiable concrete object" type. When fully indulged in fiction, this object may be a cult object of an unspecified culture or simply a sculpture.
It is a characteristic of painting that whatever object it focuses on and incorporates into the image makes it an artifact.
The settlement and the later hillfort can be considered as a closed heterotopia that changed functions during its duration. Had it suffered a more favourable fate in the 20th century, it might today be a museum in nature, an open-air museum. It would be a type of institutional heterotopia, characterized by the accumulation of different temporal planes, the "freezing" of time, i.e. a real "timelessness." Instead, after a hiatus lasting several centuries, the original character, the landscape shaped by human activity - the taskscape - was resumed.
